Student Leadership

We believe every child has a leader within them.

From our youngest learners in Early School to Grade 8, Academy students are encouraged to lead.

For some, leadership means helping a friend across the monkey bars or showing a peer where to put their winter gear. For others, leadership takes a more formal role.

Our students are encouraged to discover what leadership means to them, find their voice, become a self-advocate and understand their place in the world.

Morning Greeters

Starting off the day with a smile and a fist bump can sometimes make all the difference. Our youngest learners volunteer to welcome their peers each day to school.  Imagine the thrill of a first grader being  "in charge" of the doors and welcoming his eighth grade buddy into school.

Chapel Leaders

Whether it is walking in with your little buddy or leading the school in prayer, sharing a poem or a song, chapel provides our students with a unique opportunity to showcase their leadership in a variety of ways.

Morning Meeting

Throughout our school community, from Early School to Grade 8, our students gather to share, lead and grow each day.  In Early School this could mean explaining the day's weather to your friends. In Lower School this may mean talking about character traits. In Middle School our students share successes, discuss projects and work together to ensure each day starts with a sense of community.

Leader In Me

Starting in our Lower School, our students participate in Leader In Me, embracing the philosophy that we

  • teach LEADERSHIP to every student,
  • create a CULTURE of student empowerment,
  • and align systems to drive results in ACADEMICS.

Student Government

The Student Council works together with the Head of School, Division Heads and a faculty advisor to incubate new ideas for the school and have student voices heard.

NJHS

Aligning with the Academy Cornerstones, participating in National Junior Honor Society reflects our students' everyday commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.
