I welcome you to The Grosse Pointe Academy, a community united by a deep belief in the power and potential of our students. When I first arrived on this picturesque campus, set in a historic neighborhood along the lake, I was struck by the palpable energy of students, faculty, staff, and families. The Academy stands apart in its commitment to preparing students to become wise citizens of their own community and of the world.

The Academy remains devoted to its historic traditions, while pioneering new and proven methods of instruction. We embrace a strong Montessori foundation for our youngest learners, instill core values of social justice and empathy as prescribed by our Christian roots, and expose our students to an increasingly interconnected world. Our students are challenged, supported, and ultimately enter high school with an exceptional educational foundation and budding individual passions.

Each day I spend on campus affirms my initial impression of the school and its people. Like you, I am a parent who wants my children to develop a rich intellect, curiosity about the world, empathy for others, and an appreciation of community. At the Academy, our committed faculty work tirelessly to instill these traits in our students. I have seen this happen firsthand in their work with my youngest son, an Academy graduate.

Tommy Adams
Head of School

Appointed Head of School at The Grosse Pointe Academy in 2016, Tommy Adams has worked for over 25 years in independent schools, primarily in the area of enrollment management.

Just prior to joining the Academy, Tommy was Assistant Head of School for Enrollment at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA and Director of Admission for eight years at The Gunnery in Washington, Conn. 

Tommy is the Founder and Director of The Erdmann Institute for Enrollment Leadership.  He has been a regular presenter at national events, such as TABS, SSATB, and IECA. Additionally, he has served on multiple independent school-related committees including the ASSIST School Retention Task Force and the TABS Convention Planning Committee. 

A graduate of Avon Old Farms (Conn), Tommy received his bachelor's degree from Roanoke College (Va) as well as a master's of science degree in Education with a focus on educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
