Shared Humanity - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Our commitment to Shared Humanity
Pascal Losambe, Phd, Advisor and Mentor to The Grosse Pointe Academy in creating an environment of shared humanity.
As a school community of persons with diverse identities and backgrounds, The Grosse Pointe Academy is committed to fostering a school environment that respects, affirms and protects the inherent dignity and worth of each member of our community. Our shared humanity calls for us to live by the golden rule — to treat others the way you want to be treated — and underscores the need for authentic relationships, an open and humble heart in listening and truly hearing what others are going through and a desire to know how to support them.
As an institution that encourages our stakeholders to engage in nuanced dialogues with multiple viewpoints, it is essential to maintain a healthy, inclusive culture and a climate open to a variety of opinions and perspectives. Being a responsible citizen requires cooperation, effective communication, and the development of a deeper level of understanding of other people’s experiences, feelings, values, beliefs and mindsets. Hateful, discriminatory and demeaning speech and attitudes go against the Academy’s Cornerstones and commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging, and work against our goals of creating a culture marked by empathy, respect, critical thinking and interdependence.
