Annual Book Fair a Huge Success!

One of the most anticipated events each year at The Grosse Pointe Academy is the annual Scholastic Book Fair. From our youngest learners in the Early School through Grade 8, students had the opportunity to enjoy books read by guest readers, review new titles from their favorite authors and discover new ones, and share the experience with their big buddies, special friends and grandparents.

“Students love the Book Fair because it means new books and school supplies that spark their inspiration to learn and create more,” says Abby Ferry. Ferry, who is a Grades 1 to 4 Library, Media Sciences and Computer teacher at the Academy, is also the Scholastic Book Fair Academy Coordinator.

Over 2100 books were purchased by our students and their guests who visited the Fair either in person or online.  A true Academy community-building event, this number includes books purchased and generously donated back to teachers and after-school enrichment programs.

One of the highlights each year is the Academy Guest Reader series. Our special guest readers include teachers, coaches or administrators who enjoy sharing their own love of reading with students. For the students, enjoying a book read by a guest reader further adds to the excitement of the Fair.  “A good guest reader can further immerse students into a story,” says Ferry.

Ferry, who worked for months leading up to the Fair with representatives from Scholastic, coordinated with our facilities staff and numerous members of the Parent Council who spent countless hours volunteering, organizing and setting up the fair. “The Academy Book Fair would not be possible without the efforts of our parent volunteer Book Fair Chairs and the family members who volunteered their time to ensure the fair was staffed, stocked and an overall enjoyable experience for the students,” says Ferry.
