Academy offers sports programs for Kindergarten through Grade 8

With athletic opportunities at both the elementary and middle school levels, The Grosse Pointe Academy offers fall, winter and spring sports for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Participating in Academy athletics allows students to further build on developing their Cornerstones. Leadership, empathy and effective communication - each are important to being part of a team.

Students at the Academy are introduced to sports starting as early as Kindergarten through the Bitty Bulldogs Sports Academy. Each season, our Bitty Bulldogs Program provides students in Kindergarten through Grade 4, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of each sport offered at the Academy. This Fall, for example, our Middle School boys tennis and girls volleyball teams are hosting Bitty Bulldogs sessions for their younger peers. 

The benefits for both the participants and their Middle School “coaches” are numerous. For our younger students, Bitty Bulldogs allows them the opportunity to try new sports, learn the basics, develop relationships and encourage teamwork. For our Middle Schoolers, the opportunity to be a coach and mentor to a younger Bulldog allows them to develop their leadership, communication and teamwork skills. 

For our Middle School athletes, the Academy offers a formal athletics program where our students compete with local and regional Middle School teams. Fielding teams during every season, the Bulldog Athletics program features both JV and Varsity levels as well as both girls and boys teams for many sports. This fall, our Middle School teams include JV and Varsity volleyball, boys tennis and cross country. 

“This fall sports season has the potential to be the best season yet,” says Kevin Richards, Academy Athletic Director and Physical education teacher. “We have an incredible coaching staff. I am looking forward to exciting competition.”
