Academy Community Celebrates Spirit Night

The Grosse Pointe Academy Bulldogs competed against St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church on October 18 during the Fall Spirit Night. The excitement began as students arrived at school in their spirit wear to show their school pride. The fun continued after school as our students cheered on their classmates during the cross country meet and JV and Varsity volleyball games.

“All the girls were excited to play in front of their families and friends! It was a fun atmosphere,” said Stephanie Dettlinger, Grade 4 teacher and JV volleyball coach.

Students from both the Lower and Middle Schools filled the bleachers of the Fieldhouse to cheer on their peers.

“Our varsity volleyball team won in a thrilling fashion with a final score of 26-24,” said Kevin Richards, Academy Athletic Director and Physical Education teacher. “The girls did a great job with serve receiving and had some timely serves.”

The Bulldog cross country team had awesome individual performances as well. The top male Academy runner accomplished a time of 13:53, the top female Academy runner finished with a time of 15:40 and the most improved cross country athlete had shaved six minutes off of their best time.

Cross country coach, Dayun Marjanovic, said, “The energy from the crowd, weather, cider and donuts made it a lot of fun!”

A night of sports combined with supportive family and friends resulted in a a memorable experience. Our students, faculty and staff are grateful for the community that can be found at The Grosse Pointe Academy.
