A CHRISTMAS STORY
In spite of the fact that the Grade 2/3 performance of “The Christmas Story” was postponed due to weather, the students didn’t miss a beat when they performed for their parents on Monday evening, December 19. Shepherds, wise men, angels, stable animals, innkeepers and Mary and Joseph took to the stage for songs, narration, and the playing of Orff instruments, recorders and chimes in a musical retelling of the familiar story of the birth of Christ. Musical direction was provided by Roshell Chuhran.

THE ART OF LIP SYNC'ING
Is it auditions for American Idol, or So You Think You Can Dance? No – it’s the sixth and seventh grade lip sync’ing project, an integral part of Marion Chrisner’s middle school music curriculum. In October it was the sixth graders’ turn to take the stage.
“The educational purpose behind it is to reach rhythm,” explains Mrs. Chrisner. “Its true benefit, however, is as a confidence builder.”
Students work on the project independently for several weeks before presenting the finished works of art to their peers and, in some cases, at special performances for other students.
The requirements are that they choose a song from a Disney or Broadway musical; that they wear a costume; and that they use a prop. There must also be movement involved, be it in the form of a dance or the gestures and mannerisms of a character.
“Each year there are those students who surprise me,” says Mrs. Chrisner. “Some of them take my breath away.”
