Faculty Challenges Students to Reading Contest

To encourage reading for pleasure, the faculty has issued a challenge to the students in grades 4-8. A contest is underway to determine who can read 18,000 pages in the shortest time. The program, led by our librarian, Jane Baetens, is called “It's Time to Read.” Each team’s progress will be measured on two clocks displayed in the library, with each minute equaling 300 pages read. Students and faculty will keep track of their reading on sheets that list the title of the book and the number of pages read each day. The first team to complete their clock will be declared the winner and will be allowed an extra free dress day. The second place team (there are no losers when you read!) will have to wear school uniforms for the day. Yes, the faculty will wear school uniforms if they are not the winners.

To keep students reading, there will be recognition certificates awarded throughout the year to those who read 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 pages. It is our hope that everyone in the Academy family will continue to take time to read.
