Grosse Pointe Academy third, fourth and fifth graders participated for the first time in Kids' Ads 2007, a special section of the May 10 issue of the Grosse Pointe News that brings local business and schools together in an effort to teach students about newspaper advertising. Approximately 300 third through fifth graders from the Academy, University Liggett School and Richard Elementary School participated, with several children drawing ads for one of approximately 700 businesses. The winning ad for each business is published in this section along with the first name of the child and his or her school and grade.
"This was tough to judge," said Grosse Pointe News advertising manager Peter Birkner. "For many businesses several ads were excellent and it was a difficult choice to make. We'd like to thank all the children and teachers who participated in this project. We hope this was a learning experience for you and helps you to understand a little more about advertising and newspapers."
A percentage of the profits will be donated back to the participating schools.
Special thanks go to K-3 art teacher Rosi Triano and 4-8 art teacher Bryan Zink for working with the students on this project.
