The faculty is developing a curriculum that will ensure our students have an understanding of the history of this school and community. The focus for the fourth grade will be on architecture. This topic is particularly timely given the renovations to the main school building that are currently in progress.

A special visit by Theo Pappas, AIA, of Fanning-Howey in Novi, the architectural firm that is leading the renovations, brought the building’s architecture to life for the students on January 31 during their weekly Breakfast Club. Using presentation boards, Mr. Pappas gave the students a glimpse of their future once the building is complete in September of 2007.
The fourth graders had many questions for Mr. Pappas. For example, McCalla Mecke asked whether it was fun to be an architect.
“The best part about being an architect is seeing your dream become a reality,” Mr. Pappas told the children. He also described some of the challenges inherent in retaining the history and architectural integrity of a 78-year-old building while at the same time bringing the classrooms up to the 21st century. Finally, he emphasized how such a major endeavor involves teamwork by a range of specialists.
