First grade and eighth grade students enjoyed some special visits from parents, who shared insights from their respective professions to enrich their studies.

Geoff Donaldson, an environmental planner and father of Bridget (grade 4) and Timothy (grade 1), visited Mrs. Martin's first grade class as part of their occupation unit to discuss how he helps to make the environment safe for everyone. Using a model and a spray bottle, he demonstrated to the children how rain washes pollutants into the sewers, which eventually carries pollutants to the waterways, and how building smaller, more curved waterways helps slow down the movement of water so that fewer pollutants get into larger waterways.
