Students Participate in China Quiz Bowl

Posted: May 1, 2009

On Saturday, April 25, Academy seventh and eighth graders headed to Madonna University in Livonia to participate in the first Michigan China Quiz Bowl. As GPA is one of the only middle schools in the area to offer Chinese, our students competed with second and third year high school students from Cranbrook, the University of Detroit Jesuit and Troy High School. The quiz bowl consisted of three regulation rounds and a championship round.

“Our students did a wonderful job under great pressure,” reported Chinese teacher Lucia Crane. In fact, one of the eighth grade teams advanced to the finals, where they lost to Troy, which has offered Chinese for eleven years, in a tie-breaker. GPA came home with a second place trophy in Division IA, and a second place trophy in Division II.
