Third graders studied energy in science class. To demonstrate potential and kinetic energy using the chemical energy of a battery, the children constructed their own miniature cars. They explored circuits and switches to see how energy from a battery (chemical potential energy) going through wires (electrical potential energy) makes the car move (kinetic energy). The children got a charge out of designing their cars and holding mini-races in the hallway and classrooms!
