The theme for this year's Scholastic Book Fair, hosted by the PCC, is "Reading Rainforest: Wild for Books!" GPA students do in fact go wild for the Book Fair and love the opportunity to browse the selections with their grandparents and special friends as well as with their school buddies. Proceeds from this event go directly into funding book orders for the library.
The hours are as follows:
Friday, October 13, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Grandparents'/Special Friends' Day
Monday, October 16, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday, October 17, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Note extended hours!) Grade 6 Parent/Teacher Conferences
Wednesday, October 18, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Thursday, October 19, 8 a.m. 4 p.m. No School - Parent/Teacher Conferences
The Academy has the opportunity to participate in a special philanthropic effort this year, called "One for Books." Each child who brings in one dollar to the Book Fair will have his or her name displayed on a palm leaf (in keeping with the Amazon theme). Scholastic Books has agreed to donate one book for every dollar raised to one of three national literacy charities. In addition, that same amount raised will be used to purchase materials from our Book Fair, which will then be donated to the Monteith Library in Detroit, a library refurbished by the Junior League of Detroit. We are asking children in grades 4-8 to participate in the "One for Books" program and to think of ways they can donate their own money from their piggybanks or allowances in lieu of asking their parents. Please contact Book Fair co-chairs Cheryl DiMauro, Karen French or Linda Heidt with any questions.
