Action Auction 2008 a Great Success!

The 41st Action Auction opened doors to another successful fundraising event for The Grosse Pointe Academy.  Held on the Academy campus on May 7 and 10, guests were tempted with a wide array of over 700 items as well as a first rate party. Catering was provided by Epoch Events Catering, well known for their restaurant group properties, Tribute in Farmington Hills, Forte in Birmingham and Latitude in Bay Harbor.

On Wednesday, May 7, 350 items were offered in a silent auction. The merchandise was artfully displayed to catch the bidder’s eye, with bids displayed on plasma screens to allow guests to move throughout the Tracy Fieldhouse.  Guests dined on a delicious strolling supper topped off by divine double shot desserts.

For the Saturday event, guests arrived on the red carpet and kicked off the night with a champagne toast in the school’s newly renovated library.  Many came in black tie to lend an elegant air to the evening.  The night showcased another 330 silent auction items to get the bidding started for the evening.

The Tracy Fieldhouse was transformed again into a lovely dining and event space with tables decked out with crisp, white and periwinkle tablecloths accented with a springtime array of gorgeous flowers. A sumptuous buffet dinner was served, followed by the start of the program. Emcee Paul W. Smith and the DuMouchelle auctioneers led the charge with a live auction, offering an exciting selection of 46 impressive items.  These included trips to Australia, Ireland, and Paris, beautiful jewelry, cars, parties and more.

Sponsors of Action Auction 2008 included Premier Sponsor – St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Principal Sponsor – Gallagher-Kaiser and Faculty Sponsor- National City, among many corporate sponsors and item donors who helped make the evening a success. Proceeds raised helped fund academic enrichment activities, scholarships and the preservation of the beautiful historic campus.
